At a young age, Michelle Monaghan discovered that she was ever so slightly cross-eyed. So she went to the doctor who pulled one of those shell game maneuvers with her eyeballs and, in a practical joking sense, re-arranged them the very same way. Michelle never knew the difference. Herself born in Iowa, Monaghan’s father worked in a factory and was also a part time farmer - twin occupations that saw him attaching cow bells on a Des Moines dairy assembly line. A class president in high school, Monaghan went on to study journalism at Chicago’s Columbia College, not to be confused with the Columbia School of Broadcasting. Her academic efforts shot completely to hell, Monaghan opted for the stage, her subsequent screen career being a matter of buying low and selling high. Which is to say, earlier projects were minor, but Monaghan came on in a big way to where she now appears in loads of critically ill-acclaimed movies. You’ll recognize her from Gone Baby Gone, a film that went baby went; and she’s the primary love interest in The Heartbreak Kid, a re-make which must have the 81 year-old Neil Simon begging for death. Michelle’s rather unique outfit gives us pause to wonder, as well, if axe murderers are now working the fashion houses. And, God, those simply marvelous shoes with the purple suede flaps…to think that goats died in vain. But it’s Michelle’s cramped toes look that particularly intrigues, reminding us of a federal housing project for illegals. Not to mention an ever so slight hint of nicotine frosting the toenails. On the appointment calendar, the FEMA official arrives at “3″.
