Julie Christie’s Feet - Another Thing To Remember Her By

There’s a quaint axiom that goes something like this: What’s old is new again. Had that saying applied to the erstwhile cinematic goddess Julie Christie, we’d be feeling way better about the following snarky commentary. That said, a couple of you out there probably did cry when Old Yeller got shot [thank you, Bill Murray in Stripes]. But who among us didn’t spring the Cedars of Sinai at a glimpse of Julie in Dr. Zhivago? So manhandled by Rod Steiger, so poetry written to’ed by Omar Sharif. Any one of us would have trekked across the Siberian wilderness for an afternoon’s assignation with that snotty blond who plays a Russian peasant in a British accent. Then, again, we had Julie in Shampoo giving Warren Beatty a b.j. underneath a restaurant table. And if that wasn’t enough, Christie bared her then-marvelous bottom in the movie Darling. So many good things to remember Julie by. Alas, brutal time marches across the face of its victims like ruthless golf shoes over an open box of ping pong balls. In Christie’s situation, we’re reminded of the movie actress Gloria Swanson plays in Sunset Boulevard - when great beauty slams head first into Gothic. It’s life’s tragic auto accident time and again. Dressed like a Motel 6 bellhop in these pix, Christie takes a similar fashion risk with the open toed Zorro-look. Like some Payless Medusa beckoning us, dare we even glance at those bloated senior citizen appendages? Frightening to think, but baby seals may have been on the receiving end of those Johnsons. Christie, for all her legend, gets a very sad “1″.
